Darleen Tana (author of our report Transforming Wastewater Management for Small Communities in the Far North District of NZ was recently interviewed by Dale Husband on Māori Radio to talk about the report and electrocoagulation (EC).
We’re heading into a period where:
• compliance requirements are tightening.
• infrastructure costs are rising fast.
• Communities are fed up with sewage going into our rivers and moana.
The current system is not keeping pace.
The report looks at electrocoagulation as one option because it changes the equation:
→ lower cost
→ modular deployment
→ supports land-based discharge
But the bigger issue is this:
What gets approved now will shape the next 30–50 years of infrastructure.
And the way we’re going about it looks to reinforce the same ole way of thinking that got us in this situation in the first place
