The problem with counting energy sources

This excellent article in The Conversation examines the way primary energy is measured when total energy use is determined, which leads to unwarranted assumptions being made. the raw numbers for fossil fuels do not take into account the energy wastage that usually occurs when they are used; this wastage can be extremely high, especially when compared to renewable energy sources. As a result, graphs of primary energy make it seem impossible to end our long reliance on fossil fuels. We should be focusing on useful energy, the energy that does the job.
